It was the last weekend of the regular season and ACT Test weekend as well. There were some hot performances, and some notable absences. Let’s get to the recapping to see what was what. (Plus, results for EVERY meet were received. Woo-hoo!)

Eldorado XC Invitational

Led by Jessie Hix, the Eldorado Lady Eagles ran away with the team title by scoring 17 points. Hix and teammates Esther Beck and Melia Macias went 1-2-3 while finishing within a second of each other at 19:48-19:49.

The Louis Bernardone-led Eldorado boys made a clean sweep of it, posting a 46 point victory, 26-72, over the Highland Hornets. Bernardone took top individual honors by breaking the tape at 16:38. It was a good day to be an Eagle.

Grants Invite

The Shiprock Lady Chieftains followed up last weekend’s strong performance at the Jamboree by posting a 60+ point victory. Led by Lacy Howe’s runner-up 21:20 clocking, the Lady Chieftains appear to be firing on all cylinders. Taking the individual victory was Navajo Pine’s Annoesika Laughlin, who cleared the field by 37 seconds with her 20:43 finish.

Noticeably absent from the results was Valencia’s Carisma Lovato, who’s teammates filled in nicely edging Zuni by a point for team runner-up honors.

In the boys race, Shiprock’s Shawvan Levi took individual honors in 17:36, but the real battle was the one waged between the Zuni Thunderbirds and the Laguna-Acoma Hawks for top team honors. The Thunderbirds edged the Hawks by 4 points despite the Hawks putting six in front of the Thunderbirds #5. That’s close.

Led by Wynona Martin’s 20:10 individual victory, the Lady Bengals scored 31 points and had a Team Average 39 seconds faster than seconds place Miyamura.

Piedra Vista bum rushed the field with a 38 second Pack Time on their way to 42 points. Miyamura’s Niles Times secured top individual honors in 15:53 wrapping up an 8-0 regular season.

Ruidoso Cross Country Invitational

The Clovis Lady Wildcats used a Team Average of 22:00 to take top team honors. Led by Kelsey McNaughton’s 20:33 first place finish, the Lady Wildcats accumulated 33 points, besting runner-up Centennial by 40 points.

In the boys race, Carlos Oregon and the Hobbs Eagles rolled into town dropping 19 points on the 14 team field. Oregon and teammate’s Manuel Porras and Andrew Bosquez went 1-2-3 for the Eagles securing a 43 point victory over the Lovington Wildcats.

Notable absences from the starting line were Santa Teresa’s Britani Gonzales and Onate’s girls and boys top five.

Valley Invitational

The paces were hot at Mariposa Park. Rio Rancho’s Andi Almodovar took advantage of fast paces taking top honors in 18:18 while leading the Rams to 21 team points. The La Cueva Lady Bears secured team runner-up honors despite 5 of their varsity seven not in the field.

Rio Rancho continued their meet onslaught in the boys race, taking six of the Top 10 places for 28 points in the matter of 50 seconds. Devin Paderes and his teammates are clearly clicking at the right time. Belen’s Aaron Valenzuela hit the afterburners on his way to a 32 second margin of victory with a 15:31 clocking. That’s absolutely cooking.
