Ashlee Moore Leads Hep After 4 Events At The GSW

Ashlee Moore (Hamilton) leads the heptathlon after day 1 with 3285 points at the Great Southwest Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Moore won the high jump with a jump of 5-8 earning 891 points.  She also finished 2nd in both the 110 hurdles (946 points) and the shot put (36-01.25 for 595 points) and finished 3rd in the 200 dash with 853 points.

Tiana Bonds (Las Vega, NV) is Moore's closest competitor and trails Moore by 40 points with a total of 3245.  Bonds won the 100 hurdles with a time of 13.75 (1014 points) and (event she is ranked US#6) with a PR of 13.50.  She also won the 200 dash in 24.40 for 943 points but only earned 493 points with a 10th place finish in the shot put.

The two athletes will compete in the final 3 events - Long Jump, Javelin and the 800 meters.  The last meeting between Moore and Bonds occured at the Arcadia Invitational with Moore edging Bonds by 49 points.
