Another weekend of track and field is set to take center stage in the Land of Enchantment. Here's what this weekend holds:
03/21 - 03/22 |
For some of New Mexico's top athletes, a trip across the border to the sprawling metropolis of Phoenix is in order. It figures to be a little warmer over there and those who go typically turn in some very nice times. Santa Fe and St. Pius X seem to be the New Mexico schools going. We find Madeline Weibe, Akeisha Ayannini, Tiffany Garcia, Zach Grand, Noel Prandoni, Steven Duran, and Marcos Serna among the entries in the Elite division. |
Chandler, AZ |
03/21 |
Alamo Navajo Cougar Invitational It figures to be a small meet and, unfortunately, I have no word on schools planning to attend. |
Alamo Navajo, NM |
03/21 |
Small is not the word for this meet. Seven schools from Colorado join the usual suspects from San Juan County. And, if you've been following the results out of the Farmington area at all this spring, you know that track and field is alive and well in the northwest corner of the state. Ignore the results of this meet at your own peril. |
Aztec, NM |
03/21 |
From Springer to NMMI, they're all converging on Dexter. Eunice and Santa Rosa would be a couple of teams of special interest that should be showing up here. |
Dexter, NM |
03/21 |
Looks like a pretty decent showdown that brings Artesia, Carlsbad, Hobbs, and Portales into town. But, it would appear that the varsity squads for the larger schools may be headed to Roswell, see next meet down on the list. |
Lovington, NM |
03/21 |
Everybody with a big enrollment from SE New Mexico appears to be headed for this one--Hobbs, the Roswell schools, Carlsbad, and so on. There's plenty of talent headed toward this meet and it should be a good show, but the strengths of these teams don't always converge for great matchups. |
Roswell, NM |
03/22 |
Buddy Robertson Invitational (Milne) If you've lived in the Albuquerque area for a while, you know the drill by now. Half the ABQ schools go to Milne and half traipse on over to Wilson. They both have nice meets. |
Albuquerque , NM |
03/22 |
Buddy Robertson Invitational (Wilson) But wouldn't it be fun to get them all together a little more often? That would, however, make for something of a crowded party. |
Albuquerque, NM |
03/22 |
You might be surprised how many small schools there are in northern New Mexico, and if you show up for the meet, you're likely to get a pretty good idea of just how many there are. |
Dulce, NM |
03/22 |
Alamo Navajo shows up on the list of teams for this meet, so perhaps their meet on 3/21 isn't happening? In any case, the distance events here should be absolutely top drawer with L-A hosting and East Mountain, Bosque, Cottonwood Classical, Grants, and Jemez Valley dropping in for a visit. |
Casablanca, NM |
03/22 |
Truth or Consequences is the place to be. We should get our first good look at Lordsburg as they square off against Mountainair, Socorro, Cobre, and a few others. |
T or C, NM |
03/22 |
Taos, Estancia, and West Las Vegas roll into town. This could be surprisingly good for a quad meet. |
Moriarty, NM |
03/22 |
Rolla Buck White Sands Invitational Ah, another nice showdown for the Alamogordo/Las Cruces area schools. A couple Texas schools may show up for the action as well. And, the more we see of Alamogordo this season, the better they start looking. |
Alamogordo, NM |
03/22 |
Out on I-40, almost to Texas, most of NE New Mexico will be looking for some good track and field action in Tucumcari. Clayton, Texico, Santa Rosa, and Cimarron are all teams of interest, but maybe Santa Rosa is running split squads this weekend? |
Tucumcari, NM |
As always, results will be posted as soon as they become available.
