Los Alamos Summary

It may not be too far afield to suggest that Friday's Los Alamos Invitational raised more questions than it answered. After the fashion of many late season meets, this one left a lot of us scratching our heads.

What are we to make of Kevin Wyss finishing as far back as 17th? What are we to make of the absence of Kyle Carrozza and Jared Mayoral from the results? Can Taos continue the momentum the showed here into the state meet in two more weeks?

How did the Los Alamos 4 and 5 girls get so far separated from 1, 2, and 3? Isn't pack running the trademark of the Los Alamos girls? Is St. Pius now the 4A girls team with Big Mo in their corner? Are the Taos girls actually moving into position to make it a sweep for the 3A Tigers?

It's going to take another week or two to answer these questions, but you can scarcely help but wonder. These things seem certain:

1. The Los Alamos boys are looking the stronger the deeper into the season we go.

2. The Los Alamos girls are beginning to show some chinks in the armor.

3. Jereme Santistevan is a serious threat to run the fastest time in all classifications at the state meet.

4. Taos is a team we should have been paying more attention to sooner.

5. The continued development of Hannah Baca for St. Pius is making the Sartans a much more formidable team than they appeared to be at the start of the season.

For the meet itself, the Los Alamos and Albuquerque boys battled to a draw through five positions. AA takes the tie-breaker at #6, however. Depth is still the ally of Adam Kedge's Chargers. Taos hold their own very nicely in third.

The Los Alamos girls edged St. Pius X by a slender margin of two points, with Albuquerque Academy back another 12 points in third.

The road is indeed long but we are also drawing toward the end of this year's road. Things that seemed very clear three or four weeks ago seem not nearly as clear now.
