At this point, 2A Girls 2014 has all the intrigue you could ask or hope for. There is, as of this point, no clear leader, but plenty of teams with abundant potential to make some school history and take home a state meet title.
Clearly, East Mountain has a strong entry heading into this year, but it took only a casual glance at this year's state meet results to see that one coming. Santa Rosa, Ramah, and Bosque are each just a hair behind based on the rankings of returning athletes. And, if Bosque gets Reiley Kelly back at anything like her former self, they should be even stronger than the analysis below indicates.
Clayton, Eunice, and NMMI have reason to be hopeful as well. The eastern reaches of the state should be very competitive next spring.
For all these teams, any prospect of a freshman (or eighth grade) phenom next spring could make the picture instantly more tantalizing. Where the margin between teams is this narrow, a single high-impact addition to a team can change a lot of things.
