As the 2013 track and field season heads through the midway point, Hope Christian holds a narrow lead among 3A girls. While certainly not an insurmountable lead, theirs is a lead built on scoring points across a wide span of events. The Huskies can easily absorb a couple of things going wrong and still hold a very difficult hand to overcome. Though not exactly with New Mexico-style scoring, here's what a virtual meet of NM 3A girls teams looks like at this point:

Relay Team (1) |
Hope figures to score big with entries like Anna Duvall and Cierrah Kassetas and nickel-and-dime other teams to death with other scoring entries. On top of that, Hope is running a pretty solid set of relays at this stage of the season.
Pojoaque Valley is clearly the closest of the rest of the field. Amanda Babick's name is familiar to all of New Mexico high school track and field. She will get her points at the state meet, but it remains to be seen exactly how Pojoaque uses her many talents. With relays looming as large as they do in New Mexico state meet scoring, it seems likely that Babicke ends up carrying the stick once or twice, but that would mean sacrificing an individual event. Pojoaque can add several more points in sprints, but does not figure to score as well across the board as Hope, making the Pojoaque relays all that much more important.
Robertson comes from up north and presents a challenge of their own. They lack a Babicke or Duvall in terms of individual scoring potential, but they do have one scorer ranking nearly as high in Kristen Montano, possibly the best set of relays in 3A to date, and, like Hope, the ability to keep posting points in a majority of the state meet events.
Behind these big three, it's currently a substantial gap back to Taos, Ruidoso, and Silver. Each of these three are dangerous teams, but also teams in need of cobbling together a few more points. There's still time left in the season to find those points, but the window of opportunity won't last a great deal longer. Keep an eye out and watch what happens with this three to see if any make the big move to join Hope, Pojoaque, and Robertson.
