Great Southwest Indoor Classic Set to Blast Off

It's time for the Great Southwest Indoor Classic meet. While the meet has yet to gain the kind of participation its sister event gets in June, it is getting larger and more competitive with each edition. This will be the third year of the high school event.

Maybe you're conflicted for Simplot weekend but still have the urge to run another indoor track meet. Maybe you want another tune up before heading to Simplot. Maybe you'd rather travel to Albuquerque than Pocatello in February. Maybe you've heard a little about this meet and want to find out what the buzz is about. Or maybe just live a lot closer to New Mexico than Idaho.

There are any number of reasons to pack your spikes and singlet and head to the Duke City for a little top-tier regional track and field action.

Contested at the Albuquerque Convention Center on a state-of-the-art 200-meter 60-degree banked Mondo track, the meet will bring in a large swath of the best talent in the entire Southwest region. The meet runs from 6 PM to 10 PM on Saturday evening, with doors opening at 4:30 PM.

All high school athletes are welcome to register and compete. Online registration is with Direct Athletics. Entries close at midnight on Wednesday, and the entry fee is $10 per event, plus the processing fee.

Admission will be charged for this event. Adults are $7, students and senior are $5. Children under 12 get in for $2.

High school events to be contested include: 60, 60H, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200, Shot Put, Pole Vault, Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump, and 4x400.
