Erik Le Roux Stuns High School Field at Colorado Springs Community Mile

Erik Le Roux sets up between Ethan Powell and Brent Bailey on his way to winning the high school division of the Colorado Springs Community Mile.

Erik Le Roux will be entering eighth grade this fall. He just sent a statement for next fall.

Le Roux won the high school division of the Colorado Springs Community Mile at 4:33, three seconds ahead of Rampart's Sadio Fenner. Connor McCabe was another three seconds back.

Simply stated, Le Roux broke with the lead pack with the rest of the high school field formed a second pack behind the leaders. They never caught Le Roux; on this day, at least, he wasn't coming back.

Now, to exercise a small degree of analysis on that result, Le Roux should be at a bit of a different stage in his training cycle than most of his competition in the race. Le Roux just finished USATF Junior Olympic Nationals within the last two weeks. Most of the people he was competing against are building for the long haul of the high school cross country season.

But still...

You might as well start speculating now about which high school Le Roux will be running for next fall.

Rampart's Kyla Ramsey topped the female finishers with a 5:27, edging Air Academy's Tatum Miller who finished in 5:29.

For the most part, schools with athletes competing in this mile race were Palmer, Air Academy, Liberty, Rampart, and Doherty. By far, Palmer, Rampart, and Doherty had the most entries.
