AAU Junior Olympic Games: Day 3 Recap

There were six AAU National Championship records broken on day three of the AAU Junior Olympic Games. You can check out the full list of records here, but below are some of the biggest highlights from the third day of competition in Ypsilanti, Michigan. 

Race Of The Day: Tamari Davis Breaks 14-year-olds AAU National Record In 100m

While today was only the prelims for the 100m, Tamari Davis of Florida destroyed the old AAU National Championship record with her time of 11.48 (+1.9). The previous record was held by Alicia Burnett from St. Louis, Missouri, at 11.66.  Watch for Tamari to run even faster in the semifinals and finals, and to make an attempt for a record in the 200m dash as well.

FloTrack's Johanna Gretschel caught up with Carl Lewis, one of the most decorated track and field athletes in U.S. history, to talk about his start in AAU and the impact AAU has had on his life. 


Makayla Jackson

Makayla Jackson won the 17-18-year-old long jump for her first national title on Monday. Jackson will be a junior next year. She jumped 18 feet, 7.25 inches to take the title. Watch out for her, because she says she will be shooting for the 20-foot barrier by senior year.
