The Canyon senior hasn't stepped on the track since winning gold at last year's Pan-American Junior Athletics Championships. Last year he ran several indoor meets, but this year the Great Southwest Indoor Classic will be his first. The Texas hurdle king won both the 60m Hurdles and the opened 60m dash at the meet last year.  He holds PR's in those events of 7.01 (60m Dash) and 7.82 in the (60m Hurdles).

Two other big name Texas athletes who will be competing in the Land of Enchantment this weekend are El Paso Burges's Dartez Hamlin and Fort Worth Boswell's Jalen Seals. Hamlin will be running the 200m while Seals will be competing in the long jump, triple jump and 60mH. Seals will enter the competition with the best seed mark in the triple jump, and the 2nd best in both the 60mH (behind Grimes) and long jump.

Hamlin has already run twice this year once at his future home track at the Carl Lewis Invite and the other time at the Duke City All-Comers (HS, Open). His seed time in the 200m ranks 3rd fastest.

On the Girls side, Karyss Betzen from Canyon Randall is entered in both the mile and 3200m. The junior has run twice already this season. She competed in the 800m and 2 Mile at the Air Force High School Indoor Open and the 800m and mile at the Arkansas High School Invitational. Her mile seed time of 5:18.00 ranks first coming into the meet while her 3200m time of 11:30.00 ranks 2nd fastest.
