Two Months to High School Races at USA Cross Country

As the close of the conventional cross country season draws near, think of this as your reminder that this school year is not conventional.

On February 7, the nation's best cross country runners converge on Boulder for the USA Cross Country Championships and slots on the USA team for World Cross Country. You will likely never have a better opportunity to see this many of the nation's top distance runners at a single event in a long, long time.

Local high schoolers also have two opportunities to compete on that day. For those who are prepared for it, there are the Junior Championship races--8K for men and 6K for women.

Most high schoolers, however, will be pointing at the open high school 4K races provided especially for occasion. The 4K course will be two circuits of the 2K course, with separate races for males and females. The course is two grass loops and spikes are recommended. No USATF membership is required for the designated high school races.

While it's still relatively early in the registration process, we want you to know that registration fees for the race go up from $15 to $25 on January 8. Also, both the male and female races are capped at 200 entries.

High school races run at 10:00 (girls) and 10:25 (boys). Junior races follow at 10:55 and 11:30 AM
