The NCAA Early Signing Period is now two weeks past and few New Mexico Athletes took the opportunity to commit to their future institutions of higher learning. We will begin highlighting these moments with two of La Cueva’s best.

Name: Natasha Bernal

School: La Cueva

Signing With: University of New Mexico

What clinched the decision for the school you signed with: I was really looking for schools that had a really good engineering program and UNM looks like a really promising place where I can succeed academically and athletically.

Favorite track event: Definitely the 3200M because it's the longest event that requires a lot of endurance.

Favorite high school athletic memory: Being able to run cross country with a great team that worked hard all season so that all our hard work paid off with the help of our amazing coaches.

Name: Mackeniz Everett

School: La Cueva

Signing With: University of New Mexico

What clinched the decision for the school you signed with: I knew that if I was going to run in college, I was going to run for UNM. I will be the 4th member of my family to run for UNM - and the only girl.

Favorite track event: 1600M. I have always loved the 4 lap event. I like the pacing of this race, distance yet still an important sprint.

Favorite high school athletic memory: It is a tie between my Metro Record race last season in the 3200 M and my State 1600 M race with Jessie Hix.
