Wait, what? Already?

Saturday morning will be full of racing at both the Rio Grande XC Invitational and Rio Rancho Jamboree. Photo by Sampson Sage.

And just like that, here we are, one month out from the Big Dance. There are only three races on tap this week. Without further ado, let’s get to the racing!

(Note: All rankings are based off the most recent NM Preps Team Rankings.)

THURSDAY

Kicking things off at Harry McAdams Park is the Hobbs Invitational. A very competitive line-up of the southeastern teams is scheduled including the 6A #9 Alamogordo girls, the 6A #7 Clovis girls, 5A #8 Lovington boys, and of course, 6A #2 Hobbs boys. Whether any Texas teams plan on to cross over state lines is still yet to bee seen, but this will be a meet worth watching.

SATURDAY

There are two meets to choose from, both in the Albuquerque Metro area. We’ll go alphabetically in the previews.

First up, the Rio Grande XC Invitational at Rio Grande High School. A contingent of six Albuquerque Public Schools will be rocking and rolling headlined by the 6A #3 boys and #6 girls Cibola Cougars.

A bit further north at Rio Rancho High School is the Rio Rancho Jamboree. According to the NMAA District Alignment and Classification information, there are 109 New Mexico schools that participate in Cross Country. Of those 109, 82 are scheduled to participate in the Jamboree. So, with roughly 75% of the state in one spot, that’s where the focus of NM Milesplit will be the rest of the week.

Regardless of what race you may be taking in, enjoy watching the kiddos lace them up, toe the line, and throw down. XC BABY!!!
