Registration now open for Colorado Festival of Throws

Be part of the first-ever Colorado Festival of Throws!

Friday, May 30, is the date. 10 AM is the time (but arrive early for implement weigh-in). La Junta High School at 1817 Smithland Road on the south end of La Junta is the place. The Colorado Festival of Throws is the event. Be there.

The per-athlete entry for this event is $20, payable by credit card through MileSplit online registration. When you register, your entry will be seeded according to your best mark in each event you enter. Flights will be established according to seed marks. You may enter any or all of the three events: shot put, discus, and javelin. Shot put and discus will be contested at the state-of-the-art throwing venue at the southeast corner of the La Junta High School track. Javelin will be thrown on the baseball outfield at La Junta High School, a couple of hundred meters away. Parking will be in the main lot on the south side of La Junta High School.

You must bring your own implements for competition. You can help nudge javelin closer to the mainstream here in Colorado by signing up for, and participating in, the javelin. Think of this as being a polite way of casting your vote for more widespread acceptance of this event in the state. If you don't have access to a javelin, make friends with someone who does and come together.

Out-of-state entries are welcome. All entries should be current or incoming high school athletes. All results will be posted on Colorado Track XC and the state sites for any other athletes competing from other states. Colorado Track XC will be on-site to provide complete coverage of this event.

To be transparent, Colorado Track XC is delighted to cover and help promote this event, but has no financial stake in the event. Proceeds raised from this event will go to help support La Junta High School athletics.

Entry is on an individual basis. For most of you, individual entry on Colorado Track XC is a new thing, so you'll want to read over this set of instructions:

To enter the Colorado Festival of Throws as an Individual:

1. Go the the Colorado Festival of Throws meet page.

2. Click on the green Enter Online Now bar below the meet title. When you click on the green button to enter the meet, it will send you to a register or login in page if you have not logged in. If you do not have a MileSplit or state site username and password, you have to register and get e-mailed the password.

Once you receive that, login (top right on gray bar), go to the meet page, click on the green enter online now bar - enter as individual. It will identify you by name from your username.

3. Add your contact phone numbers (for meet director's use only) and click enter individual. It will then tell you "you have not claimed an athlete" and ask you to do a search for an athlete, add your name and search. If you do not find yourself, please contact Alan Versaw at versawa@msn.com. If you so find yourself - from being in our system as a high school or student, you must click on your name, go to the profile page, and if it is indeed you, you must claim your page and await admin approval. Then when that arrives (usually the same day), you can enter the meet. Many of you have already claimed your athlete page and that will shorten the process here.

4. Go to the right-hand side of the screen and, under Payment Options, hit the Pay Now button and enter your payment information.

5. You are welcome to send me an e-mail to verify entry if you like.

Registration closes at noon (MDT) Wednesday, May 28. Day of event registration may be available, stay tuned for updates on that.

An admission fee will be charged for spectators.
