The results, honestly, look like opening weekend results. There is some rust that has accumulated over the winter. Several of the top performers are not yet in action. But, really, who cares? It's track season now, and the times and distances will get better--soon.
El Paso Austin Boys Invitational
Highlights were a little thin for the New Mexico contingent here, but don't tell that to Cristian Cedano. Cedano's big day included a win in the high jump at 6-2, a second in the 300 hurdles at 43.19, and a fourth in the 110 hurdles at 16.67. They made certain Cedano slept well last night by having him run a leg of the 4x200 as well.

Onate's girls finished second in the meet and had plenty to show for it. Jennifer Ramirez won the 100 and 300 hurdles in 17.37 and 49.61. Doubtless, Ramirez will require a new seed for the 300 hurdles next week, as she blew away her 55.99 seed this week. Meghan Aguilera is back at it with seconds in both the 800 and 1600. Yemisi Oroyinyin won the discus at 103-11 and was the only girl to threaten anyone standing at the 100-foot arc of the sector. She doubled back and won the shot put at half an inch over 34 feet. Considering where the ranks of the 5A girls shot put are right now, that's a state-significant kind of throw. Sidney Aguilera (any relation to Meghan?) snared a third in the 400 at 1:04.61.
El Paso Bowie Boys Meet
Onate again showed well here, only this time it was the boys putting up the performances.
Thomas Salas opened with a 10:27 and 5:00. I think most distance coaches would be pleased with that as a first-meet performance for a freshman. The legs might have been a little heavy for the 1600. Seth Siler and Brett Williams go 1-2 in the 100 at 11.77 and 11.82, respectively. Williams would double back for a third in the 200.
Las Cruces' Isaiah McIntyre had a nice opener to his season with a 5-10 for second in the high jump and a 20-7.5 for a win in the long jump.
El Paso Bowie Girls Meet
Mayfield picked up several places, and across various events, but the only event winner in green-and-gold was Jenna Rabe in the 100 hurdles at 19.15. Rian Niles in the 200 and Celeste Walz in the discus added seconds.
