Some notes on upcoming meets

Quelling a few rumors and making sure you're up to speed on the latest meet news.

There will be a very well-attended indoor meet on Sunday at the Air Force Academy, but it won't be the only option for local high schoolers this weekend.

Particularly for athletes in the southern tier of counties, the Great Southwest Classic Indoor looms on Saturday. That meet will take place in the Albuquerque Convention Center on the UNM 200-meter banked oval. Several Colorado athletes are already registered, and there will doubtless be several more to be added as registration heats up this weekend. In terms of total participation, this should be the biggest weekend yet of high school indoor action this season.

Both meets, however, will be missing a few pole vaulters as the Reno, Nevada, airport will be busy processing very long poles all weekend for the Reno Pole Vault Summit.

Colorado Track XC will be on-site for coverage at the Martin Luther King, Jr., Mile-Hi meet and will be posting results as soon as possible from the Great Southwest Classic Indoor and Reno Pole Vault Summit. Figure on a GSW Indoor preview article later this week when complete entries become available.

Even as we're squarely in the middle of indoor season, meets are constantly going up on the Outdoor calendar. Meets are being added almost daily as word comes through.

It seems that the Liberty Bell Invitational on the last weekend of April has been the subject of a few inaccurate rumors. The meet is on this year and is still open for team registrations.

The Pueblo Twilight will be held on May 2 this year and still has room for a few more team entries. If you'd like to send a few athletes or send a team, please send me an e-mail at the address in the lower left corner of this page.

As a reminder, if you are a meet director and have not yet requested online registration for your meet this spring, that can be done at the online registration request link. Allso, if you're a meet director and would like to add a logo to your meet on the calendar, please follow these steps:

1. Find a suitable graphic (a school logo or some such thing)

2. Resize the graphic to 120x90 pixels

3. Make sure you are logged in and go to the meet page for your meet.

4. Click on the logo area (left end of banner).

5. Select your file, upload, and refresh the meet page.

And, finally, the outdoor season looks to have a few more invitationals on opening weekend (March 8) this year. In addition to the usual options of Boulder, Fort Morgan, and Liberty, there will also be meet options at CSU-Pueblo, Jefferson County Stadium (Columbine), and an in-district-only meet at Longmont High School. For those schools in the southwest corner that want to get an early start on their season, the Farmington (New Mexico) Early Bird beckons.
